Serves 4 | Prep: 30 Minutes | Bake: 20 Minutes

Ingredients

Apple Filling

•    4–5 apples, cored and thinly sliced
•    2 tablespoons butter
•    2 tablespoons brown sugar or maple syrup
•    1 teaspoon cinnamon
•    Pinch of salt

Crisp Topping
•    ½ cup old-fashioned oats
•    ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
•    2 tablespoons butter, melted
•    ⅓ cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
•    Additional cinnamon, to taste

Method
1.    Preheat oven to 375°F.
2.    Toss sliced apples with cinnamon, salt, and brown sugar (or maple syrup).
3.    Melt butter in an oven-safe skillet — stainless, cast iron, and carbon steel all work great. Add the seasoned apples and cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes, until they begin to soften.
4.    In a bowl, combine oats, flour, nuts, melted butter, and a little more cinnamon. Mix until the topping comes together.
5.    Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples in the skillet.
6.    Bake for 20 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
7.    Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel.
